Pets At Home & Centre MK: More campaign success

After we were successful in campaigning to stop the local shopping centre, the Grand Arcade, from hosting a cruel ‘Easter Farm’ event (see Cambridge Evening News report), we offered our support to a local campaigner trying to stop the Centre MK from hosting a similar event.
We are pleased to report this has been a victory for common sense. The centre has decided not to force animals to travel and then be surrounded by screaming, excitable children and busy, noisy shoppers.
Animal Rights Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin Uni’s Animal Respect was also instrumental in getting Pets at Home to remove an offer for a rabbit and small hutch they planned to run over Easter. The offer could have led to even more impulse buying and discarding of rabbits. Pets at Home are now only offering equipment at a discounted rate; however, hutch size remains an issue. We additionally leafleted customers at our local Pets at Home – encouraging people to adopt, not buy.
